two ways to save
- the share sheet: in the other app, tap share and choose postpalm. this is the fastest way.
- paste a link: copy the post's link, open postpalm, tap add link, paste, tap add.
links that work
| platform | links postpalm reads |
|---|---|
| posts, reels and tv: instagram.com/p/…, /reel/…, /tv/… | |
| tiktok | tiktok.com/@name/video/…, and the short links tiktok gives you (vm.tiktok.com/…) |
| x | x.com/name/status/… and twitter.com/name/status/… |
| reddit.com/r/community/comments/…, and the short links reddit.com/r/community/s/… and redd.it/… | |
| threads | threads.net/@name/post/… and threads.com/@name/post/… |
| pinterest.com/pin/… and the short pin.it links | |
| tumblr | a tumblr post's link |
| linkedin.com/posts/… | |
| stores | a product's page on a store's website (saved to a wishlist) |
short links are followed to the real post for you. a link to a profile, a story, a search page or a feed is not a post and can't be saved. open the single post first, then share it.
tracking codes are removed
share links usually carry a code that says who copied the link (instagram's ?igsh=, for example). postpalm removes it before saving. that means opening the original later never shows "someone shared this with you", and the link you keep is clean.
what the share card says
| card | what it means |
|---|---|
| saving to postpalm… | postpalm is reading the post and downloading its files. keep the card open. it usually takes a few seconds, longer for long videos. |
| saved! | the whole post is saved. the card closes by itself after a moment and you get a notification. |
| how should it look? | an x post that has both words and media. choose the whole post, or just the media. see x. |
| already saved | this post is already in your library. you can choose to save it again or leave it. |
| couldn't finish saving | no luck this time, but postpalm keeps your link and keeps trying until it saves. |
| couldn't save this | the link isn't something postpalm can read. check that it is a single public post. |
save in background
for instagram, tiktok, threads and pinterest links, the card also has save in background. tap it and you can close the card right away. ios finishes the save for you, even if postpalm is closed, and you get a notification when the post is ready.
- ios decides when background work runs, so it can take from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.
- don't force-quit postpalm from the app switcher while a background save is running. ios cancels background work when you do.
- if a background save is stuck for a long time, postpalm gives up on it and keeps the link so it can retry.
when a save can't finish
a connection that drops, a platform that is slow, or a server that is waking up can all stop a save. nothing is lost:
- the post appears in your library as a saving… card with the link.
- postpalm tries again by itself when you open the app, when you come back to it, and when your connection returns. it makes several automatic tries.
- tap the card to try again right away.
- if it keeps failing, the post may be private, deleted, or blocked by the platform for a while. try again later.
only real files are kept
postpalm checks every download. an error page, an empty file or a video your iphone can't play is never saved as if it were a real post, so you don't end up with blank cards.
notifications
with notifications allowed, postpalm tells you saved to postpalm when a save finishes, couldn't finish saving if one needs another try, and when you have used your last free save of the month. see notifications.
the free limit
each save counts toward your monthly saves on the free plan, and the app tells you when you reach the limit. a duplicate you choose to save again counts again. see pricing and plans.
save the single post, not the profile. open the post you want so its own page is on screen, then share.
postpalm saves public posts only, and only for your own offline viewing. see respecting creators.
