links that work
- posts: instagram.com/p/…
- reels: instagram.com/reel/…
- tv videos: instagram.com/tv/…
links with a tracking code on the end (?igsh=…) work too. postpalm removes the code. a link to someone's profile or to a story is not a post link and can't be saved. open the single post and share that.
save one post or reel
- in instagram, open the post or reel.
- tap the share (paper airplane) button.
- choose share to… to open the iphone share sheet, then pick postpalm. or choose copy link and paste it later with add link in postpalm.
- wait for saved!.
instagram changes its menus now and then. if you can't find share to…, copying the link and using add link always works.
what gets saved
- every photo and video of a carousel, in order. you swipe through them and long dots show where you are.
- reels and videos with their sound, at the best quality instagram shows publicly.
- the caption as plain text.
- the poster: display name, handle and profile picture. instagram only offers a small picture, so it looks small.
- the original link, cleaned.
how it looks when you open it
- photo posts: the poster at the top, the photos (full width, swipe sideways), the caption, and favorite, share, save and delete buttons at the bottom. tap the poster to open the original on instagram.
- reels and videos: a full-screen video with the caption over it. use the speaker button to mute or unmute, and swipe away to go back. you can also make a gif from it. see make a gif.
what is not saved
- comments and likes.
- stories and highlights.
- private accounts, or posts only visible to followers.
- posts that were deleted.
privacy
- postpalm never asks for your instagram password and never signs in to instagram for you.
- to save a post, postpalm's server reads the post's public page, the same page anyone can see without an account, and hands the files to your phone. the files are held only long enough to deliver them.
- nothing is posted to instagram, and your account isn't touched.
videos that need converting
some instagram videos use a format iphones can't play. postpalm converts those for you while saving, which can take longer, sometimes up to half a minute. the converted copy may be without sound if the original had none. a video that can't be played is never saved as a blank card.
troubleshooting
- "couldn't save this": make sure the link is for one post, reel or tv video, and that the account is public.
- it keeps saying saving…: the post stays in your library and postpalm retries by itself. tap the card to retry now.
- a profile picture is missing: postpalm fills it in the next time you open the app, when it can.
- already saved: you saved this post before. save it again only if you want a second copy.
only save posts you have permission to keep, and follow instagram's terms of use.
